Peace in the meadow
I began my study of Feng Shui the way a lot of people do – with a random book from the library. Something here made a lot of sense – and I certainly wanted to improve my life. Okay – so let me move some stuff around and put a mirror over my stove and let’s see what happens. Then, I started expanding my book collection to cures. How can Feng Shui cure me of my lack of money – or strengthen my relationship? What does this book say – okay. What does that book say? And on and on it went for ten years or so.
Something kept drawing me back to Feng Shui – there was something about me in this study. I even acquired what I thought was a pretty good working knowledge of what good or bad Feng Shui entailed, which I would share with friends at parties. I wanted to improve my life, and everyone else seemed to want that too. I knew, deep inside, that Feng Shui was going to help make my life better. I was right – but not in the way I expected. I did not win the lottery after enhancing my wealth area. My professional study and certification in Interior Alignment changed the way I looked at everything. Learning to embrace my beginners mind and letting go of being right was extraordinarily empowering – and improved the quality of my life much more than any cure ever could have. I really did achieve enormous improvement in my life from the gift of Feng Shui.
What does this all have to do with Mother Theresa anyway?
“The fruit of Silence is Prayer
The fruit of Prayer is Faith
The fruit of Faith is Love
The fruit of Love is Service
The fruit of Service is Peace”
— Mother Theresa
I heard this quote two weeks ago, and it simply blew my mind. I realized when I heard it that there was a big truth here. Silence to Prayer to Faith is a simple way of stating the Law of Attraction. I feel there are many life improvement techniques which stop at Love. All there is – is Love. So were The Beatles not accurate – is there more than love? Before this quote entered my life, I felt that Love all around me all the time was going to be the end of my life improvement quest. What could there be better than that – right? It turns out – “around me” is the problem with that. Once we achieve Love and Peace at home, we get to go out and share it with the world. So maybe The Beatles were right. Maybe Peace is just a bigger expression of Love that requires us to try and improve others lives as well as our own.
Yet, many of us struggle to just get to Silence. The quieting of the monkey-mind can take a lifetime to achieve. So with that, how can we possibly get to Peace? Easy – Eat the elephant one bite at a time. Try to improve your life with whatever feels right to you. Keep working on Silence. Once you get the Law of Attraction or Feng Shui improving your life – keep going and move beyond Love. World Peace is possible. This holiday season, whether you are Christian, Jewish, Pagan, Atheist or somewhere in between, a Silent Night is a perfect start.
